About Renée

Renee is a Realtor, writer, workshop leader, speaker and new grandmother.  With two friends, she is the author of two award-winning books, Invisible No More: The Secret Lives of Women Over 50 and Saving the Best for Last: Creating Our Lives After 50. The authors speak to women’s groups and lead workshops based on their latest book. In addition, Renee is the Boomer Humor Columnist for www.examiner.com and a frequent contributor to “Gray Matters,” a Sarasota radio show.  In a previous life, Renee was a Special Ed teacher, a Tupperware dealer, the founder of Brief Encounters (a speed dating company) and a hula hoop champion.  And, because she is directionally challanged, there’s no telling where she might pop up next.  She lives in Arlington, VA with her Now Husband Dan, who she met on Match.com.  Her website is www.invisiblenomore.com.

  2. I loved your GPS post. My sister made me use hers on a drive we took from FL to NY…. I couldn’t get used to the voice…but my sister said it had been selected by her husband because she was sexy. Thankfully when ms. hotpants tried to coax me off my well-known route, I knew better and tuned her out…….

    • Thanks, Bernice. I just read your reply to my comment on your post. My husband and I were married on Rhodes in 2006. We took my three kids and their significant others. We were in Greece and Turkey for over a week, and no one had a cell phone or a laptop. We communicated with only each other. It was glorious.

    Hey, Renee!

Your articles are fantastic! I couldn’t believe you wrote them all, but then saw all the personal references, Arlington, Dan, Yael–very impressive and quite humorous, too!

Keep up the great work. And congratulations on being a grandmother!

    Yours, Sue Holland

  9. Congratulations on new grandmother-hood (depending on when that was written).

I have so much to say about invisibility that I won’t say any of it. You’re welcome. :-)

    • Thanks. Jonah is now 15 months old. My daughter writes a blog about life in London, and she writes about Jonah. She is a very gifted writer. Her blog is the yaelchronicles.wordpress.com. The whole “invisible” thing is so interesting. We’ve spoken with countless women, and we’ve heard both sides. I’d love to hear your take on it.

  11. I see you mentioned you visited South Dakota’s Indian reservations? What did you think? I’d love to hear about it! (As a South Dakota gal, myself).

    • We went to Pine Ridge. I’ve read so much about it, I had to see it. I know Pine Ridge has the lowest standard of living in the country, so I was prepared for real poverty. What I wasn’t prepared for was the isolation. Some of what is there is good, but most is very depressing. I love Indian culture (the art, the music, the stories, and the pre-invasion culture), the part of it that wasn’t obliterated by government policy or destroyed by alcoholism. Reservations in other parts of the country fare better, for various reasons. The Plains Indians have endured so much.

Love your blog! I’m 64 (…will you still need me, will you still feed me…) and love new technology, but I cheat and get my granddaughter to give me ‘Cliff Notes’ versions so I can still look hip. Just got the HTC Thunderbolt and am totally hooked! And I really do look younger than my 50 year old step-daughter but I just don’t feel like it when I get out of be in the morning.

  26. How about life after 60? I’m 66, retired, and am busy all day. At last I have time for things I want to do as well as things I have to do. I write, read, quilt, play my dulcimer, garden, and many other things. My DH and I visit our son and grandchildren about every couple of months. Life is good.

If you want to take advantage of this dubious honor… Write a post that mentions notquiteold as your nominator, nominate 15 other posts (a lot I know) and tell your readers seven things about yourself that they may not know. Congrats, and I love your blog.
